I am currently taking a poetry class on Future Learn. This found poem was the exercise for the first week, and is based off of several news articles about the Internet Archive’s National Emergency Library and the controversy around it.
Robin Hood
The million dollar question here
is whether the work of the
Internet Archive, and its actions,
amount to book piracy.
Whereas some saw this act as
fundamentally detrimental to
publishers and booksellers
aggressive, unlawful and opportunistic
attack on the rights of authors and publishers
in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic
The conflict raises the question
of whether or how a sudden mass disruption
might influence a fair use analysis
others saw it as a boon
may seem like a Robin Hood act
but to those who make a living
it’s anything but
The Internet Archive is honoring
author requests to be removed.
